Joseph Paulo (born 2 January 1988) is a New Zealand-born Australian professional rugby league footballer who currently plays for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the National Rugby League. A Samoan and United States international, and NRL All Stars and New South Wales City representative, he plays at lock, second-row and five-eighth and previously played for the Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels. ==Playing career== Paulo was born in Auckland and attended Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown. He is of American Samoan and Niuean descent, and so is eligible for both Samoa and the USA at international level. He is also an Australian Schoolboys international. Paulo began his NRL career at the Penrith Panthers after playing his junior rugby league at the St Clair Comets. Paulo made a mid-season switch to Parramatta in the 2011 season. Paulo was named in the Samoan squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. In 2009 he was named as part of the Samoan side for the Pacific Cup.〔(Poching names strong Samoan squad ) ''therhinos.co.uk'', 6 October 2009〕 However, in 2011 he switched his allegiance to the USA and was named in the United States national team for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers, making his debut in the tournament. He captained the United States in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
